Most Hollywood smile quotes are hard to compare because the words in them are not the same kind of word. Two of the three options people arrive asking about are materials. The third is a technique. Once that is clear, the rest of the decision gets much easier to hold.
E-max is a material, laminate is a technique
This one confusion sits underneath most of the rest.
Zirconia and E-max (lithium disilicate) are ceramics. They are what the restoration is made of.
Laminate, or veneer, is a technique: a thin shell bonded to the front surface of a tooth, removing very little enamel. A laminate can be made of E-max. A crown can also be made of E-max. So "E-max or laminate?" is not a question with an answer — it is two questions collapsed into one.
The question worth asking is: how much of the tooth is being covered, and what is it made of?
The three options, technically
Zirconia crown. The strongest of the three, and the most opaque. It covers the whole tooth, which means more of the tooth is prepared away. It resists load well, which matters at the back of the mouth and for anyone who grinds.
E-max crown. Also covers the whole tooth, but the material transmits light in a way zirconia does not, so it looks more like enamel. Less strong than zirconia under heavy load.
E-max laminate veneer. The least invasive: a facing rather than a cover, so most of the natural tooth stays. It needs healthy tooth structure underneath to bond to, and it does not fix what it does not cover.
Which one, in which case
A laminate is the right answer when the tooth underneath is largely sound and the change wanted is to colour, shape or small alignment. Little enamel is lost and the result is the most natural of the three. It is the wrong answer when there is a large filling, a root canal, or heavy grinding — there is nothing sound to bond to, or too much force for a facing to survive.
An E-max crown is the right answer when the tooth needs full coverage but appearance is the priority: a front tooth with a large restoration, or one where a laminate would have too little to hold on to.
A zirconia crown is the right answer when load matters more than translucency — molars, bridges, and cases with grinding. Modern multilayer zirconia has closed much of the appearance gap, but at the front, E-max still reads more like a natural tooth.
In practice most cases are hybrid. A plan that answers "all zirconia" or "all laminate" for twenty teeth is answering a question about inventory, not about your mouth. The front teeth and the back teeth are under different loads and are looked at differently.
What the price actually reflects
Prices below are averages of published market prices, gathered across clinics — not quotes, and not what you would be charged. They are here to show the size of the gap, which is the thing this comparison is about.

One reference anyone can check them against. The Turkish Dental Association's 2026 guide tariff, which applies in every province, prices a zirconia crown at ₺13,750 including VAT — about €246 at the central bank rate of 28 August 2026 — a full-ceramic crown at ₺21,450 (€383), and a ceramic veneer crown at ₺12,100 (€216). It is a guide rather than a legal minimum, and clinics price below it lawfully. Read against the table above it does two things: it puts the zirconia row's top end almost exactly on the official figure, and it sits above the whole E-max crown row — a reminder that the ranges here are what clinics advertise, not what the profession prices.

Read the note before reading the numbers. The Türkiye figures are usually quoted as all-inclusive packages — digital smile design, imaging, temporaries, hotel, transfers, a night guard. The UK and USA figures are typically the clinical fee alone, with preparatory work billed separately. Two totals that look comparable are often not describing the same purchase, which is why the last column of a price table is the least informative part of it.
Why the gap is not a quality gap
The materials are the same. Zirconia and E-max are supplied by the same manufacturers worldwide, and a dental laboratory in Istanbul mills from the same blocks as one in Manchester.
What differs is everything around them: rent, wages, laboratory costs, and the cost of living the practice sits inside. That is why the gap is large and stable rather than a discount someone is offering you.
What it does not tell you is whether a particular clinic is good. A low price in a low-cost market says nothing about the dentist. That is a separate question, and the one the ranking below is built to help with.
The six questions worth asking
These separate a consultation from a sales call, wherever you are having it.
- Which teeth are being covered, and with what? A written plan, tooth by tooth, naming material and technique for each. "20 zirconia" is not a plan.
- How much enamel comes off? Ask for the answer in the form "these teeth are prepared, these are not". Enamel does not grow back, and this is the one irreversible part.
- Who does the work, and where is the laboratory? A named dentist and a named laboratory, in writing.
- What happens if one fails at home? Ask who is responsible, what it costs, and how long you would have to be back.
- How many visits, over how many days? A plan that promises twenty units in three days is describing a schedule, not a treatment.
- What does the price not include? Fillings, root canals, gum treatment and night guards are the usual omissions, and any of them can change the total.
About "Turkey teeth"
The phrase describes a real failure mode: healthy teeth aggressively prepared for crowns that were not clinically necessary, often on a compressed schedule.
It is a description of over-treatment, not of a country. The same failure happens anywhere a cosmetic result is sold to a patient whose teeth did not need covering, and the safeguard is the same everywhere — question two above. A plan that removes enamel from sound teeth to achieve a colour change is the thing to walk away from, in Istanbul or anywhere else.

What this ranking cannot tell you
It reads four things: the public Google rating with its review count, any accreditation on record, an approximate operating history, and whether a second independent platform has been captured. No dentist can pay to change any of them.
It cannot tell you which material suits your teeth, how much preparation your case needs, what you would be quoted, or how your own result would look. Those belong in a consultation — and the six questions above are what to take into one.

- Why do the prices here appear as ranges when your hair transplant guide refuses to publish any?
- Because they are answering different questions. That guide is about how to read one quote you have been given, where a range tells you nothing about what your own quote covers. This page compares three materials across three countries, where the gap is the point being made. The figures below are averages of published market prices, not quotes, and the note under each table says what they do and do not include — which is where two apparently similar totals stop being comparable.
- Why do these scores look lower than the clinic scores elsewhere on this site?
- Two of the formula's four components cannot apply to a person. Accreditation is awarded to facilities, and years-in-operation reads a business's founding year. Individual dentists also carry far smaller review counts than clinics: on this page they run from 86 to 1,056, where a hair transplant clinic can carry several thousand, and the formula weighs a rating by how many people stand behind it. Compare within this page freely; never compare a score here with one on a clinic page.
- Does a higher score mean a better smile?
- No. The score reads public reputation and the evidence behind it, not clinical outcome. It cannot see which technique suits your teeth, how much enamel you would have to lose, or what your case needs. Those belong in a consultation, and the questions further down this page are the ones worth taking into it.
